Lifshitz Chava

1938 Emigration nach Palästina. Studium 1953-1961 an der Hebräischen Universität in Jerusalem, 1958 M.S., 1961 Ph.D. in physikalischer Chemie; 1961-1963 chemische Forschungsarbeiten an der Cornell University in New York; 1963 Fakultätsmitglied der Abteilung für physikalische Chemie an der Hebräischen Universität; ab 1965 Vorsitzende im Laboratorium für Massenspektronomie und Forscherin am Argonne National Laboratory; 1969/70 an der Ohio State University und für das Luftfahrtforschungslaboratorium in Ohio tätig. 1971 Assoc. Professor, ab 1972 bei der Technological Inc. tätig, 1972-1976 Studienvorsitzende am Institut für Chemie, ab 1976 Professorin für physikalische Chemie, 1976/77 an der Wright State University in Ohio; ab 1976 Professorin an der Hebräischen Universität in Jerusalem; 1984-1985 Leiterin des Tenure Committee in Experimental Sciences, 1986- 1991 Mitglied des israelischen Council for Higher Education, 1989-1992 Leiterin des Physical Chemistry Department, 1991-1992 Mitglied des High Committee for Science and Technology (die sogenannte Harari Commission) und 1994-1997 Leiterin des Institute of Chemistry an der Hebräischen Universität.
Ch. L. und ihre Arbeitsgruppe leisteten wichtige Beiträge in der Massenspektrometrie als Messtechnik (auch etwa zur Elektrospray-Ionisation und zur Laser-Desorptionsspektrometrie) aber auch zur Gasphasenchemie von Ionen (Reaktionsdynamik, Elektronen- und Photoionisation, Gasphasenchemie von Clustern und Fullerenen und zuletzt von kleinen Peptiden). Eine langjährige Kooperation verband sie unter anderem mit dem deutschen Chemiker Helmut Schwarz von der TU Berlin. Sie war Autorin von etwa 250 wissenschaftlichen Originalarbeiten, die in führenden Zeitschriften erschienen sind.
Ch. L. wurde 1985 mit dem Kolthoff Prize, Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, ausgezeichnet. Seit 1989 ist sie Archie and Marjorie Sherman Professor of Chemistry, 1991 erhielt sie den Max Planck Research Award der Humboldt Foundation. 1993 wurde sie als Woman of the Year vom American Biographical Institute geehrt und 1993 Honoree International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women, 1997 wurde sie an ihrem 60. Geburtstag mit einem Special Honour Issue, edited by R.C. Dunbar and T.D. Märk, International Journal of Mass Spectrometry and Ion Processes (IJMSIP) Volumes 167/168 geehrt und erhält 1998 die Erwin Schroedinger medal sowie 2003 den Preis der israelischen chemischen Gesellschaft.
Sie war verheiratet mit Assa Lifshitz, Chemiker. Das Paar hatte drei Kinder.
