Ausbildungen: Besuchte die Höhere Töchter Schule in Hamburg, erlangte das Lehrerdiplom am Normal Training Department of the Ethical Culture School in New York.
Laufbahn: Ging 1895 in die USA, 1906 bis 1921 als Lehrerin tätig, war als Gruppenleiterin in der Child Study Association aktiv (später: Study of Child Natur), ab 1921 Direktorin. Lehrte 1928 bis 1938 an der Columbia University und 1936/37 an der New School of Social Work. War 1930, 1940 und 1950 Mitarbeiterin der White-House-Konferenzen, schrieb zahlreiche Werke über heranreifende Kinder.
