Es ist heute kaum bekannt, dass sich fast alle Frauen im Umfeld des „jüdischen Prager Kreises“ aktiv und engagiert gesellschaftlich, journalistisch und literarisch für die „zionistische Sache“ eingesetzt haben. Mit der Gründung von Vereinen und der Organisation von Vorträgen und Lesungen schufen sie eine Plattform für die moderne deutschsprachige Literatur in Prag. Zu ihnen gehörten auch Ottla Kafka (die Schwester Franz Kafkas), Elsa Brod (die Frau Max Brods), Else Bergmann (die Frau Hugo Bergmanns), Berta Fanta und viele andere.
Dass Alfred Engel eine Notschule für jüdische Flüchtlinge aus Galizien initiierte, ist zwar mehrfach dokumentiert, die Tatsache jedoch, dass Ida Freund (die Schwester von Berta Fanta) das Flüchtlingsheim für die Kinder, die eben diese Notschule besuchten, ins Leben rief, war hingegen bisher nicht bekannt. Auch die auf die Initiative von Frauen zurückgehenden Vereine wie der „Klub jüdischer Frauen und Mädchen“ und der „Mädchenklub“ sind nahezu unerforscht – im Gegensatz zu den von Männern gegründeten wie dem „Bar Kochba“. Ziel des Projekts war es, die Bedeutung des von Frauen geschaffenen kulturellen Netzwerkes, in dem Prag als ehemaliges Zentrum der Monarchie eine wichtige Rolle spielte, wieder bewusst zu machen.
