LebenspartnerInnen, Kinder: Verheiratet mit dem Historiker Bernhard Bailyn; zwei Söhne.
Ausbildungen: Bis 1937 Montessori-Schule in Wien; 1951 Bachelor am Swarthmore College in Mathematik, 1951-1956 Radcliffe College der Harvard University, 1953 M.A., 1956 Ph.D. in Sozialpsychologie.
Laufbahn: Ist in den Jahren 1956-57 als Research Associate an der Graduate School of Education der Harvard University tätig, 1957-58 Instructor am Department of Economics and Social Science am Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston und 1967 Forschungsassistentin und Lecturer am Department of Social Relation an der Harvard University. Ab 1969 hält sie diverse Positionen an der Sloan School of Management am M.I.T. Im Jahr 1972 wird sie zum Associate Professor und 1980 zum Professor ernannt. L. B. ist seit 1991 T. Wilson Professor. Zudem ist sie Vertrauensfrau mit der Aufgabe der Unterstützung und Entwicklung von Karrieren, Herausgeberin von Zeitschriften, Mitglied diverser Komitees und Kommissionen. L. B. beschäftigt sich in Arbeiten besonders mit den Themen Frauen im Beruf, Beziehung von Karriere und Familie bzw. Sozialpsychologie von Karrieren.
